Pictures of Life in Tunis
Dear all,
Its hard to believe that it is mid-October. First, it is around 85 today and it's supposed to be 92 tomorrow, but also because I've been living in Tunis for almost 6 months now. I'm finally settling in, though the language barrier is still pretty tough. I rely on a mixture of French, Jordanian Arabic, Tunisian Arabic, and hand gestures to get my point across.
I haven't talked a lot about life in Tunis, so I will try to cover a little of the cultural aspect in this post.
First, Eid al-Adha is Tuesday. This means that there are sheep EVERYWHERE.
A part of the Eid ritual is to slaughter a sheep. This year, the price of sheep has gone up and it's a big deal here. They are also not Tunisian sheep. The demand for sheep is so high that most of them are imported from Spain this year. Most years, the sheep are shipped in from other countries, since the Tunisian farmers don't have big enough flocks.
Other than that, it has been pretty quiet here. I FINALLY got internet last Wednesday, so I can catch up on skyping and emailing everyone. I can also upload pictures of my new apartment, now that I have almost completely unpacked. It only took me 6 weeks...
I sat down a few days ago with the intention of writing a longer post, but its been a little busy here. There's a lot happening at work, which I will write about later. It's been a pretty stressful month, so this entire weekend of relaxing has been amazing. I'm going to call it a night and write another post soon. Happy fall to everyone who is getting to enjoy apples and sweaters! We'll get a kind of fall here eventually, but I do miss the leaves turning.
I have included some pictures of life around Tunis the past few weeks below.

My walk to find a taxi
A camel crossing the road next to my office. It is likely that it was going to a traditional wedding. I thought it was pretty funny...
