Update on Situation in Tunis

Hello everyone!

Judging from the amount of messages I've received, I figured I should write an update!

The weather here has been unusually cool, so we've had some beautiful days. And this was the sunset while I was walking home from tutoring on Friday.

The news coming out of Egypt has caused various reactions in Tunis. Here are two articles that cover some of what is happening here, though they are from a few days ago:

The movement that started in Egypt (

Tamarud) has gotten support here, and they, in addition to the main opposition party wants to dissolve the government. There is a lot of anger over the stalled constitution process, so we'll see what happens. I've been watching all the news coming out of Cairo today, and it just seems to be getting worse. I have no insight other than what I can get from the news so I'm getting the same information that all of you are getting. I would suggest BBC over CNN though:).

Ramadan starts tonight, so people are in full celebratory mood here. The consensus seems to be that if there are large protests, they will happen after Ramadan ends. I just made a big run to the grocery store to stock up on flour, eggs and milk... Apparently those are a bit hard to find during Ramadan. As long as I can find pasta, I'll be fine!

I look forward to seeing a lot of you while I'm home later this month. I get into the country on the 16th and leave on the 30th, so you can text/call me around that time. I still have my US number for now. My tentative schedule is C-Ville on July 16-19, New York on July 19 - 23, DC 23 - 26 and C-ville from 26 - 30.

Its a beautiful day, so I'm off for a walk on the beach.
